Going on to Perfection
Sunday, June 29
1. BABIES IN CHRIST
a. How does an individual become a Christian?
John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man
be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of
God.
1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible,
by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
b. What type of experience did the believers at Ephesus enjoy
at the very beginning of their Christian life?
Revelation 2:2-3 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and
how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them
which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: (3)
And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured,
and hast not fainted.
Acts 4:32-34 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart
and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which
he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. (33) And with
great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord
Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. (34) Neither was there any among
them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold
them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,

2. GROWING UP
a. What do we expect from babies as they age?
1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that
ye may grow thereby:
b. Spiritually speaking, how important is proper food intake in the growth
of a child?
2 Peter 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour
Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
Ephesians 4:14-15 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and
fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of
men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; (15)
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which
is the head, even Christ:
Tuesday, July 1
3. LEVELS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
a. How does God treat those who have a limited amount of knowledge in
the present truth?
Acts 17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth
all men every where to repent:
James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not,
to him it is sin.
b. What is expected of those who are privileged to hear and understand
the truth?
Proverbs 4:8 Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee
to honour, when thou dost embrace her.
Hebrews 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ,
let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance
from dead works, and of faith toward God,
Wednesday, July 2
4. REJECTING KNOWLEDGE
a. Does punishment and destruction come to a people because of a lack
of knowledge-or is it through a rejection of the knowledge that God gives
us?
Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou
hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no
priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also
forget thy children.
b. How dangerous is neglecting to follow the light we are privileged
to receive?
Galatians 3:1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should
not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently
set forth, crucified among you?
Thursday, July 3
5. NO STOPPING GROUND
a. How are we to maintain continual development as we walk with Jesus?
Hebrews 13:12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people
with his own blood, suffered without the gate.
Philippians 3:15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded:
and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this
unto you.
1 Thessalonians 4:4 That every one of you should know how to possess his
vessel in sanctification and honour;
b. To what extent are we to continue our growth?
Hebrews 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ,
let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance
from dead works, and of faith toward God,
Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in
heaven is perfect.
c. How can we see ourselves as we really are?
Isaiah 6:1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting
upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
Isaiah 6:5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man
of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips:
for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove
your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is
in you, except ye be reprobates?

Lesson 2 Sabbath, July 12, 2008
Lessons From the Wilderness
Sunday, July 6
1. HISTORY
a. What was a very old custom among God’s people when extraordinary
events took place, and why?
1 Samuel 7:12 Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and
Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD
helped us.
Joshua 4:5-7 And Joshua said unto them, Pass over before the ark of the
LORD your God into the midst of Jordan, and take ye up every man of you
a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of
the children of Israel: (6) That this may be a sign among you, that when
your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye
by these stones? (7) Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan
were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed
over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall
be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.
Malachi 3:16 Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another:
and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written
before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.
b. Why is the study of history so important?
Eccl. 1:9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that
which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under
the sun.
Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written
for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures
might have hope.
Monday, July 7
2. ISRAEL IN THE WILDERNESS
a. What specific Bible history is symbolic of God’s people approaching
the final days of earth’s history?
1 Corinthians 10:6-15 Now these things were our examples, to the intent
we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. (7) Neither
be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat
down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. (8) Neither let us commit
fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and
twenty thousand. (9) Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also
tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. (10) Neither murmur ye, as some
of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. (11) Now all
these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for
our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. (12) Wherefore
let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. (13) There hath
no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful,
who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will
with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to
bear it. (14) Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry. (15) I
speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.
b. How did Satan manage to bar Israel from entering the Promised
Land? What was his aim, and how is this a warning to us?
Hebrews 3:9-12, 16-17; When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw
my works forty years. (10) Wherefore I was grieved with that generation,
and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my
ways. (11) So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)
(12) Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of
unbelief, in departing from the living God. (16) For some, when they had
heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses. (17)
But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had
sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?
Tuesday, July 8
3. A SEPARATED PEOPLE
a. Since God’s principles are distinct from the principles of the
world, what is He calling for among us?
Amos 3:3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?
2 Corinthians 6:14-17 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers:
for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what
communion hath light with darkness? (15) And what concord hath Christ
with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? (16)
And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple
of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in
them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. (17) Wherefore
come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch
not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
Mark 14:38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit
truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
b. What is the result of voluntary unity with the world?
James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship
of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend
of the world is the enemy of God.
c. What question should we ask ourselves?
2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove
your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is
in you, except ye be reprobates?
Wednesday, July 9
4. THE MODERN RED SEA
a. Why was Israel’s 40-year wilderness wandering needed?
Numbers 32:11-13 Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from
twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham,
unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me:
(12) Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son
of Nun: for they have wholly followed the LORD. (13) And the LORD’S
anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness
forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight
of the LORD, was consumed.
b. What marked the entrance into Israel’s time of testing
in the wilderness, and what marked its conclusion? How is this paralleled
in the history of the Advent believers?
Exodus 14:21, 22, 29-30 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea;
and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that
night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. (22) And
the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground:
and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their
left. (29) But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst
of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand,
and on their left. (30) Thus the LORD saved Israel that day out of the
hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea
shore.
Joshua 3:15-17 And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and
the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the
water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,)
(16) That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon
an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those
that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed,
and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho. (17)
And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm
on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over
on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.
Joshua 4:18 And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of
the covenant of the LORD were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and
the soles of the priests’ feet were lifted up unto the dry land,
that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all
his banks, as they did before.
Thursday, July 10
5. SIMILAR TRIALS
a. What types of issues will the people of God be facing in these last
days?
Numbers 11:4 And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting:
and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us
flesh to eat?
1 Corinthians 10:6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we
should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
b. Lust was the problem the Israelites faced in the wilderness
In this context, what lust will we be facing in our time?
Philippians 3:19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and
whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.
1 Samuel 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness
is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the
LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

Lesson 3 Sabbath, July 19, 2008
Following the Ark
Sunday, July 13
1. RECEIVING GUIDANCE
a. Where did the children of Israel encamp before crossing into the Promised
Land?
Joshua 3:1 And Joshua rose early in the morning; and they removed from
Shittim, and came to Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged
there before they passed over.
b. During the time of their preparation for the longed-for crossing,
what event were the people waiting for as the signal for advance?
Joshua 3:2-3 And it came to pass after three days, that the officers went
through the host; (3) And they commanded the people, saying, When ye see
the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites
bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.
Monday, July 14
2. THE SYMBOL OF GOD’S PRESENCE
a. Why was a great space required between the ark and the congregation?
What were they to follow in order to have absolute safety?
Joshua 3:4 Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand
cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by
which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore.
b. What was God preparing to show them once again as they continued
their journey?
Joshua 3:5 And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to
morrow the LORD will do wonders among you.
c. At the time of the remarkable event, what commands of Joshua
prepared the people to move in an orderly and godly fashion?
Joshua 3:6-7 And Joshua spake unto the priests, saying, Take up the ark
of the covenant, and pass over before the people. And they took up the
ark of the covenant, and went before the people. (7) And the LORD said
unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all
Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with
thee.
Tuesday, July 15
3. THE PURPOSE OF THE JORDAN MIRACLE
a. How was the miraculous crossing of the Jordan going to give the people
an assurance of victory in their future endeavors to conquer the Promised
Land?
Joshua 3:8-10 And thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of
the covenant, saying, When ye are come to the brink of the water of Jordan,
ye shall stand still in Jordan. (9) And Joshua said unto the children
of Israel, Come hither, and hear the words of the LORD your God. (10)
And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you,
and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites,
and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites, and the Girgashites,
and the Amorites, and the Jebusites.
b. What can we learn from the way some were called to take the
lead in exercising faith by entering the turbulent waters of Jordan?
Joshua 3:14-15 And it came to pass, when the people removed from their
tents, to pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant
before the people; (15) And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan,
and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim
of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,)
Wednesday, July 16
4. MEMORIALS OF GOD’S PROVIDENCE
a. As the Israelites moved forward in faith, what miracle made it possible
for the entire people to cross over into the land of Canaan?
Joshua 3:11-17 Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the
earth passeth over before you into Jordan. (12) Now therefore take you
twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, out of every tribe a man. (13)
And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests
that bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in
the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from
the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an heap.
(14) And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to
pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before
the people; (15) And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan,
and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim
of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,)
(16) That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon
an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those
that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed,
and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho. (17)
And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm
on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over
on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.
b. What did God request once the people had crossed the river?
Why do we need tangible reminders of God’s miracles?
Joshua 4:1-5 And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed
over Jordan, that the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying, (2) Take you twelve
men out of the people, out of every tribe a man, (3) And command ye them,
saying, Take you hence out of the midst of Jordan, out of the place where
the priests’ feet stood firm, twelve stones, and ye shall carry
them over with you, and leave them in the lodging place, where ye shall
lodge this night. (4) Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared
of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a man: (5) And Joshua said
unto them, Pass over before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst
of Jordan, and take ye up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder,
according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel:
Revelation 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by
the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
Thursday, July 17
5. A PLACE OF COMMUNION
a. What was the purpose of the twelve stones that needed to be picked
up from the midst of the Jordan’s dry riverbed?
Joshua 4:6-10 That this may be a sign among you, that when your children
ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?
(7) Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off
before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed over Jordan,
the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial
unto the children of Israel for ever. (8) And the children of Israel did
so as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of
Jordan, as the LORD spake unto Joshua, according to the number of the
tribes of the children of Israel, and carried them over with them unto
the place where they lodged, and laid them down there. (9) And Joshua
set up twelve stones in the midst of Jordan, in the place where the feet
of the priests which bare the ark of the covenant stood: and they are
there unto this day. (10) For the priests which bare the ark stood in
the midst of Jordan, until every thing was finished that the LORD commanded
Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded
Joshua: and the people hasted and passed over.
Joshua 4:20-24 And those twelve stones, which they took out of Jordan,
did Joshua pitch in Gilgal. (21) And he spake unto the children of Israel,
saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying,
What mean these stones? (22) Then ye shall let your children know, saying,
Israel came over this Jordan on dry land. (23) For the LORD your God dried
up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as
the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us,
until we were gone over: (24) That all the people of the earth might know
the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your
God for ever.
b. What was the first thing that entered the river, and what was
the last thing that came out? Why do we need to keep our eyes on the ark
of God?
Joshua 3:15 And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the
feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water,
(for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,)
Joshua 4:18 And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of
the covenant of the LORD were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and
the soles of the priests’ feet were lifted up unto the dry land,
that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all
his banks, as they did before.
Numbers 10:33 And they departed from the mount of the LORD three days’
journey: and the ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them in the
three days’ journey, to search out a resting place for them.
c. Where was the communication center with God found among His
ancient people? Through what source do we have access to such a center
today?
Exodus 25:21-22 And thou shalt put the mercy seat above upon the ark;
and in the ark thou shalt put the testimony that I shall give thee. (22)
And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above
the mercy seat, from between the two cherubims which are upon the ark
of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment
unto the children of Israel.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing.
Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that
we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Lesson 4 Sabbath, July 26, 2008
Statutes and Judgments
Sunday, July 20
1. GOD’S LAW IN OUR LIFE
a. What item in the ark of the covenant reveals the character of our Creator?
Matthew 22:36-40 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? (37)
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart,
and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. (38) This is the first and
great commandment. (39) And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love
thy neighbour as thyself. (40) On these two commandments hang all the
law and the prophets.
1 John 4:7-8 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and
every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. (8) He that loveth
not knoweth not God; for God is love.
1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments:
and his commandments are not grievous.
b. Besides a clear understanding and belief of the truth, what
else do we need in order to be saved?
Matthew 5:20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall
exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no
case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 19:17-19 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there
is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life,
keep the commandments. (18) He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou
shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal,
Thou shalt not bear false witness, (19) Honour thy father and thy mother:
and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one
point, he is guilty of all.
Galatians 5:6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing,
nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.
Monday, July 21
2. CLARIFYING THE DECALOGUE
a. Because of God’s great love for those who had lost their understanding
of His law, what further clarification did He send?
Deuteronomy 4:1-2 Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and
unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live,
and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers giveth
you. (2) Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall
ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD
your God which I command you.
b. Since the statutes simply explain God’s law, do they
include more than the writings of Moses? Would they be included in the
restoration of the breach in the law?
Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according
to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
2 Kings 17:13 Yet the LORD testified against Israel, and against Judah,
by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil
ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law
which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants
the prophets.
Luke 24:44-45 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake
unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled,
which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the
psalms, concerning me. (45) Then opened he their understanding, that they
might understand the scriptures,
Isaiah 58:12 And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste
places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou
shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to
dwell in.
Tuesday, July 22
3. STATUTES THAT ARE NOT GOOD
a. Did God ever give statutes that were not designed for the benefit of
humanity-and if so, why? Name one such example regarding the use of flesh
meats.
Ezekiel 20:19-26 I am the LORD your God; walk in my statutes, and keep
my judgments, and do them; (20) And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall
be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your
God. (21) Notwithstanding the children rebelled against me: they walked
not in my statutes, neither kept my judgments to do them, which if a man
do, he shall even live in them; they polluted my sabbaths: then I said,
I would pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them
in the wilderness. (22) Nevertheless I withdrew mine hand, and wrought
for my name’s sake, that it should not be polluted in the sight
of the heathen, in whose sight I brought them forth. (23) I lifted up
mine hand unto them also in the wilderness, that I would scatter them
among the heathen, and disperse them through the countries; (24) Because
they had not executed my judgments, but had despised my statutes, and
had polluted my sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers’
idols. (25) Wherefore I gave them also statutes that were not good, and
judgments whereby they should not live; (26) And I polluted them in their
own gifts, in that they caused to pass through the fire all that openeth
the womb, that I might make them desolate, to the end that they might
know that I am the LORD.
Psalms 81:11-12 But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel
would none of me. (12) So I gave them up unto their own hearts’
lust: and they walked in their own counsels.
Deuteronomy 12:20-21 When the LORD thy God shall enlarge thy border, as
he hath promised thee, and thou shalt say, I will eat flesh, because thy
soul longeth to eat flesh; thou mayest eat flesh, whatsoever thy soul
lusteth after. (21) If the place which the LORD thy God hath chosen to
put his name there be too far from thee, then thou shalt kill of thy herd
and of thy flock, which the LORD hath given thee, as I have commanded
thee, and thou shalt eat in thy gates whatsoever thy soul lusteth after.
b. Why does God give certain laws that are in conflict with His
eternal principles?
Ezekiel 14:1-5 Then came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and
sat before me. (2) And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, (3)
Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put
the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired
of at all by them? (4) Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus
saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his
idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before
his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh
according to the multitude of his idols; (5) That I may take the house
of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through
their idols.
Mark 10:5 And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your
heart he wrote you this precept.

4. EXAMPLES OF GOOD STATUTES
a. Since some of the good statutes have to do with dietary reform, what
is the result of obeying them?
Genesis 1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing
seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the
which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
Exodus 15:25-26 And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed him a
tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet:
there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved
them, (26) And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the
LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give
ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of
these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for
I am the LORD that healeth thee.
b. How does the New Testament show that the health statutes affect
both body and soul?
3 John 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and
be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of
the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your
own? (20) For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your
body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
Thursday, July 24
5. ETERNAL STATUTES
a. What is said about the statutes in these last days-and the results
which follow if God’s people obey them?
Malachi 4:2, 4 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness
arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as
calves of the stall. (4) Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which
I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.
b. Why are these statutes part of the restoration to be accomplished
by the Elijah people in the last days?
Malachi 4:5-6 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming
of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: (6) And he shall turn the heart
of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their
fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
Matthew 11:14 And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for
to come.
Lesson 5 Sabbath, August 2, 2008
Two Laws
Sunday, July 27
1. The ETERNAL MORAL LAW
a. What was one of the purposes for which Jesus came into the world? From
what does He save us? How can we recognize sin in our life?
Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his
name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Romans 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be
justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Romans 7:7, 12 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay,
I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except
the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. (12) Wherefore the law is holy,
and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
Psalms 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony
of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
b. How did Christ relate to the moral law? What did Paul write
about the moral law?
Isaiah 42:21 The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness’ sake;
he will magnify the law, and make it honourable.
Matthew 5:17-20 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets:
I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. (18) For verily I say unto you,
Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass
from the law, till all be fulfilled. (19) Whosoever therefore shall break
one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called
the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them,
the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (20) For I say
unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness
of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom
of heaven.
Matthew 5:27-28 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou
shalt not commit adultery: (28) But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh
on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already
in his heart.
Luke 16:17-18 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one
tittle of the law to fail. (18) Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth
another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away
from her husband committeth adultery.
Romans 2:12, 13, 17, 21-27 For as many as have sinned without law shall
also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be
judged by the law; (13) (For not the hearers of the law are just before
God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. (17) Behold, thou art
called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God, (21)
Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou
that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal? (22) Thou that
sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou
that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege? (23) Thou that makest
thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God?
(24) For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you,
as it is written. (25) For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep
the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made
uncircumcision. (26) Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness
of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?
(27) And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the
law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the
law?
Romans 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea,
we establish the law.
Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not
subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
Monday, July 28
2. WHICH IS WHICH?
a. Which law is called "a schoolmaster," and why?
Galatians 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto
Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
b. What does the Bible say about the ceremonial law?
Ephesians 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law
of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain
one new man, so making peace;
Colossians 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against
us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to
his cross;
Hebrews 10:1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not
the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they
offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
Tuesday, July 29
3. SHADOWS OF THINGS TO COME
a. Why did the ceremonial law-the shadow of future things-come to an end?
Colossians 2:16-17, 20 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink,
or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
(17) Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
(20) Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world,
why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,
Hebrews 10:4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats
should take away sins.
Hebrews 9:11-12, 15 But Christ being come an high priest of good things
to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands,
that is to say, not of this building; (12) Neither by the blood of goats
and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place,
having obtained eternal redemption for us. (15) And for this cause he
is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the
redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament,
they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
b. Who was among the first to offer an animal sacrifice, and what
did this represent?
Hebrews 11:4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice
than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying
of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold
the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
Hebrews 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and
unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin
unto salvation.
Wednesday, July 30
4. THE BLOOD OF CHRIST IN SYMBOLS
a. Why were animal sacrifices required?
Hebrews 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and
without shedding of blood is no remission.
Hebrews 10:10-14 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering
of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. (11) And every priest standeth
daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can
never take away sins: (12) But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice
for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; (13) From henceforth
expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. (14) For by one offering
he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
b. After the children of Israel had suffered under bondage in
Egypt, what special service was introduced to be more specific in the
representation of Jesus Christ?
Leviticus 23:5 In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the
LORD’S passover.
1 Corinthians 5:7-8 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be
a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed
for us: (8) Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither
with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread
of sincerity and truth.
c. What was the blood of animals unable to accomplish? How only
is complete cleansing obtained?
Hebrews 7:19 For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of
a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.
Hebrews 10:4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats
should take away sins.
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other
name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Acts 9:43 And it came to pass, that he tarried many days in Joppa with
one Simon a tanner.
John 1:19 And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and
Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?
Thursday, July 31
5. DONE AWAY
a. On many occasions in the history of the Jewish nation, what was so
very difficult for them to understand? What did the early Christians therefore
understand?
Isaiah 1:11-15 To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto
me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the
fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs,
or of he goats. (12) When ye come to appear before me, who hath required
this at your hand, to tread my courts? (13) Bring no more vain oblations;
incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling
of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting.
(14) Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are
a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them. (15) And when ye spread forth
your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers,
I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.
Isaiah 1:6 From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness
in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been
closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.
b. While the Jews used the sacrificial system as a license to sin, what
type of sacrifices was God really seeking?
Psalms 51:17-19 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and
a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. (18) Do good in thy good
pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem. (19) Then shalt
thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering
and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
Isaiah 1:16-18 Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings
from before mine eyes; cease to do evil; (17) Learn to do well; seek judgment,
relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow. (18)
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins
be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like
crimson, they shall be as wool.

Lesson 6 Sabbath, August 9, 2008
The Pot of Manna
Sunday, August 3
1. DELIVERANCE
a. What was one of the most important events in the history of Israel,
and how was it commemorated each year?
Exodus 12:11 And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes
on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste:
it is the LORD’S passover.
b. How long did it take to go from Egypt to the wilderness of
Sin?
Exodus 15:27 And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water,
and threescore and ten palm trees: and they encamped there by the waters.
Exodus 16:1 And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation
of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between
Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing
out of the land of Egypt.
Monday, August 4
2. MURMURING
a. Arriving at their next major resting point, what was the very first
thing the children of Israel began to do, showing their complete sense
of insecurity?
Exodus 16:2 And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured
against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness:
b. As we consider all the murmurings during the wilderness sojourn,
who was the real target of such grumblings? If we murmur today, who is
the real target of our complaints?
Exodus 16:6-10 And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel,
At even, then ye shall know that the LORD hath brought you out from the
land of Egypt: (7) And in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of
the LORD; for that he heareth your murmurings against the LORD: and what
are we, that ye murmur against us? (8) And Moses said, This shall be,
when the LORD shall give you in the evening flesh to eat, and in the morning
bread to the full; for that the LORD heareth your murmurings which ye
murmur against him: and what are we? your murmurings are not against us,
but against the LORD. (9) And Moses spake unto Aaron, Say unto all the
congregation of the children of Israel, Come near before the LORD: for
he hath heard your murmurings. (10) And it came to pass, as Aaron spake
unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked
toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in
the cloud.
Tuesday, August 5
3. QUAILS FOR A DAY
a. After only a month on their journey, what were the Israelites already
lusting for, showing how controlling our evil desires can become?
Exodus 16:3 And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we
had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by
the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought
us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.
b. With what did God supply their needs and wants? What should
we learn from His step-by-step method of leading?
Exodus 16:11-15 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, (12) I have heard
the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At
even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread;
and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God. (13) And it came to pass,
that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning
the dew lay round about the host. (14) And when the dew that lay was gone
up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing,
as small as the hoar frost on the ground. (15) And when the children of
Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not
what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD
hath given you to eat.
c. How long were quails provided? Is there a record of any negative
results from eating flesh food at that time?
Exodus 16:12 I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak
unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall
be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God.
Wednesday, August 6
4. LESSONS FROM the MANNA
a. What was the manna like, how long was it to be used, and why?
Numbers 11:7-9 And the manna was as coriander seed, and the colour thereof
as the colour of bdellium. (8) And the people went about, and gathered
it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in a mortar, and baked it in pans,
and made cakes of it: and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil.
(9) And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon
it.
Exodus 16:35 And the children of Israel did eat manna forty years, until
they came to a land inhabited; they did eat manna, until they came unto
the borders of the land of Canaan.
Joshua 5:10-12 And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and kept
the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains
of Jericho. (11) And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow
after the passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsame
day. (12) And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the
old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more;
but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.
b. What was the main purpose of this miraculous provision?
Exodus 16:4 ....that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law,
or no.
Psalms 105:45 That they might observe his statutes, and keep his laws.
Praise ye the LORD.
James 1:2-4 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
(3) Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. (4)
But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire,
wanting nothing.
James 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is
tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised
to them that love him.
c. How was this a test on the seventh-day Sabbath?
Exodus 16:5, 16-20, 22-26; (5) And it shall come to pass, that on the
sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be
twice as much as they gather daily. (16) This is the thing which the LORD
hath commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer
for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every
man for them which are in his tents. (17) And the children of Israel did
so, and gathered, some more, some less. (18) And when they did mete it
with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered
little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating. (19)
And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning. (20) Notwithstanding
they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning,
and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them. (22) And
it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread,
two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and
told Moses. (23) And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath
said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that
which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which
remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning. (24) And they
laid it up till the morning, as Moses bade: and it did not stink, neither
was there any worm therein. (25) And Moses said, Eat that to day; for
to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the
field. (26) Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which
is the sabbath, in it there shall be none.
d. How does this experience show that the children of Israel already
understood the law before reaching Mount Sinai?
Exodus 16:27-30 And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people
on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none. (28) And the LORD
said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?
(29) See, for that the LORD hath given you the sabbath, therefore he giveth
you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his
place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day. (30) So the
people rested on the seventh day.
Thursday, August 7
5. A POT PRESERVED AS A MEMORIAL
a. Because of God’s monumental miracle in the dry desert, what did
He give for a continual reminder of His miraculous provisions?
Exodus 16:32-33 And Moses said, This is the thing which the LORD commandeth,
Fill an omer of it to be kept for your generations; that they may see
the bread wherewith I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you
forth from the land of Egypt. (33) And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot,
and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up before the LORD,
to be kept for your generations.
b. Where was this pot of manna placed? How then are we to consider healthful
diet in relation to the Decalogue?
Exodus 16:34 As the LORD commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the
Testimony, to be kept.
Hebrews 9:3-4 And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called
the Holiest of all; (4) Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the
covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that
had manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;
c. What does this manna preservation also tell us about our obligation
to heed the instructions relating to the Sabbath?
Exodus 16:23 And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said,
To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which
ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth
over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.
Lesson 7 Sabbath, August 16, 2008
Lusting After Flesh Meat
Sunday, August 10
1. GOD HAD A PLAN
a. When did the Israelites arrive at the great educational center of the
wilderness, and what did God expect them to become?
Exodus 19:1-6 In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone
forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness
of Sinai. (2) For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the
desert of Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped
before the mount. (3) And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called
unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house
of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel; (4) Ye have seen what I did
unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought
you unto myself. (5) Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and
keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all
people: for all the earth is mine: (6) And ye shall be unto me a kingdom
of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak
unto the children of Israel.
Deuteronomy 7:6 For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the
LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above
all people that are upon the face of the earth.
1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy
nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him
who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
Monday, August 11
2. THE "SCHOOL" AT SINAI
a. What principles were the children of Israel to learn while encamped
around Mount Sinai?
Exodus 19:10-11 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and
sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes, (11)
And be ready against the third day: for the third day the LORD will come
down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.
Exodus 20:1-17 And God spake all these words, saying, (2) I am the LORD
thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the
house of bondage. (3) Thou shalt have no other gods before me. (4) Thou
shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing
that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in
the water under the earth: (5) Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them,
nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the
iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation
of them that hate me; (6) And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that
love me, and keep my commandments. (7) Thou shalt not take the name of
the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that
taketh his name in vain. (8) Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
(9) Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: (10) But the seventh
day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work,
thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant,
nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: (11) For in
six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them
is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath
day, and hallowed it. (12) Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy
days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. (13)
Thou shalt not kill. (14) Thou shalt not commit adultery. (15) Thou shalt
not steal. (16) Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
(17) Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not
covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant,
nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.
b. What can we learn from Israel as we seek to help others in
matters of health?
Psalms 78:24 And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given
them of the corn of heaven.
c. As soon as Israel departed from Sinai, after what did they
again lust?
Numbers 11:4-6 And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting:
and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us
flesh to eat? (5) We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely;
the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the
garlick: (6) But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all,
beside this manna, before our eyes.
Tuesday, August 12
3. LUSTING AFTER FLESH FOOD again
a. What type of flesh did the Israelites desire? Have fish also been affected
by the curse of pollution in our days?
Numbers 11:5 We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the
cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:
1 Corinthians 15:39 All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one
kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and
another of birds.
b. Although other foods are also mentioned, after what did the
people actually lust?
Numbers 11:10-13 Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families,
every man in the door of his tent: and the anger of the LORD was kindled
greatly; Moses also was displeased. (11) And Moses said unto the LORD,
Wherefore hast thou afflicted thy servant? and wherefore have I not found
favour in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon
me? (12) Have I conceived all this people? have I begotten them, that
thou shouldest say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a nursing father
beareth the sucking child, unto the land which thou swarest unto their
fathers? (13) Whence should I have flesh to give unto all this people?
for they weep unto me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat.
Numbers 11:21-23 And Moses said, The people, among whom I am, are six
hundred thousand footmen; and thou hast said, I will give them flesh,
that they may eat a whole month. (22) Shall the flocks and the herds be
slain for them, to suffice them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered
together for them, to suffice them? (23) And the LORD said unto Moses,
Is the LORD’S hand waxed short? thou shalt see now whether my word
shall come to pass unto thee or not.
Numbers 11:31-32 And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought
quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day’s
journey on this side, and as it were a day’s journey on the other
side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits high upon the face
of the earth. (32) And the people stood up all that day, and all that
night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails: he that gathered
least gathered ten homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves
round about the camp.
c. How long did they eat flesh on this occasion, compared to the
first?
Exodus 16:12 I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak
unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall
be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God.
Numbers 11:18-20 And say thou unto the people, Sanctify yourselves against
to morrow, and ye shall eat flesh: for ye have wept in the ears of the
LORD, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it was well with us
in Egypt: therefore the LORD will give you flesh, and ye shall eat. (19)
Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days,
nor twenty days; (20) But even a whole month, until it come out at your
nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you: because that ye have despised
the LORD which is among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came
we forth out of Egypt?
Wednesday, August 13
4. SUFFERING CONSEQUENCES
a. Because the Israelites had received great light, what did they have
to suffer due to their willful departure from God’s plan?
Numbers 11:33-34 And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere
it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and
the LORD smote the people with a very great plague. (34) And he called
the name of that place Kibrothhattaavah: because there they buried the
people that lusted.
Psalms 78:30-31 They were not estranged from their lust. But while their
meat was yet in their mouths, (31) The wrath of God came upon them, and
slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.
1 Corinthians 10:5-6, 9-11; But with many of them God was not well pleased:
for they were overthrown in the wilderness. (6) Now these things were
our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they
also lusted. (9) Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted,
and were destroyed of serpents. (10) Neither murmur ye, as some of them
also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. (11) Now all these
things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our
admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
b. After Sinai, did God consider the Israelites ignorant?
Acts 17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth
all men every where to repent:
James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not,
to him it is sin.
John 9:41 Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin:
but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.

5. ACCOUNTABILITY: EATING FLESH BECAME A SIN
a. How does the psalmist summarize the Hebrews’ two experiences
in the wilderness with flesh foods?
Psalms 78:18-29 And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for
their lust. (19) Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish
a table in the wilderness? (20) Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters
gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he
provide flesh for his people? (21) Therefore the LORD heard this, and
was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up
against Israel; (22) Because they believed not in God, and trusted not
in his salvation: (23) Though he had commanded the clouds from above,
and opened the doors of heaven, (24) And had rained down manna upon them
to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven. (25) Man did eat angels’
food: he sent them meat to the full. (26) He caused an east wind to blow
in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind. (27) He
rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand
of the sea: (28) And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round
about their habitations. (29) So they did eat, and were well filled: for
he gave them their own desire;
b. How is the specific record of Israel’s murmuring summarized
by Inspiration? What warning should we heed?
Psalms 78:17 And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most
High in the wilderness.
Psalms 78:32 For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his
wondrous works.
1 Corinthians 10:5-6 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for
they were overthrown in the wilderness. (6) Now these things were our
examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they
also lusted.
Isaiah 22:12-14 And in that day did the Lord GOD of hosts call to weeping,
and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth: (13)
And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh,
and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for to morrow we shall die. (14)
And it was revealed in mine ears by the LORD of hosts, Surely this iniquity
shall not be purged from you till ye die, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.
Isaiah 22:20-22 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will call
my servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah: (21) And I will clothe him with
thy robe, and strengthen him with thy girdle, and I will commit thy government
into his hand: and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
and to the house of Judah. (22) And the key of the house of David will
I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he
shall shut, and none shall open.
Revelation 3:7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These
things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of
David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man
openeth;

Lesson 8 Sabbath, August 23, 2008
The Pot of Manna Rejected
Sunday, August 17
1. THE ORIGINAL DIET
a. As God is the Maker of the human organism, what type of diet did He
design for His masterpiece of creation?
Genesis 1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing
seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the
which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
b. What types of food became necessary once sin entered this world?
Genesis 3:18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and
thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
Psalms 104:14 He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for
the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;
Monday, August 18
2. A TEMPORARY CONCESSION
a. When—and under what circumstances—did the use of flesh
food begin to be allowed? How did the human lifespan change after that
time?
Genesis 8:13-19 And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year,
in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried
up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked,
and, behold, the face of the ground was dry. (14) And in the second month,
on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried. (15)
And God spake unto Noah, saying, (16) Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy
wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives with thee. (17) Bring forth
with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all flesh, both of
fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the
earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and
multiply upon the earth. (18) And Noah went forth, and his sons, and his
wife, and his sons’ wives with him: (19) Every beast, every creeping
thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creepeth upon the earth, after their
kinds, went forth out of the ark.
Genesis 9:3-4 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even
as the green herb have I given you all things. (4) But flesh with the
life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.
Genesis 9:29 And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years:
and he died.
Genesis 11:32 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and
Terah died in Haran.
Genesis 25:7 And these are the days of the years of Abraham’s life
which he lived, an hundred threescore and fifteen years.
Psalms 90:10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if
by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour
and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
b. Even during that time of permissiveness, what items were strictly
forbidden under any circumstances? Why?
Genesis 9:4-5 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof,
shall ye not eat. (5) And surely your blood of your lives will I require;
at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man;
at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man.
Leviticus 3:17 It shall be a perpetual statute for your generations throughout
all your dwellings, that ye eat neither fat nor blood.
Leviticus 7:26-27 Moreover ye shall eat no manner of blood, whether it
be of fowl or of beast, in any of your dwellings. (27) Whatsoever soul
it be that eateth any manner of blood, even that soul shall be cut off
from his people.
Acts 15:20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions
of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.
Acts 15:29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood,
and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep
yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.
Acts 21:25 As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written and
concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves
from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and
from fornication.
c. In the wilderness, what was God attempting to restore among
His people, and what were to be the results? What work is to be accomplished
before Christ’s return?
Jeremiah 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and
ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye
shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
Isaiah 58:12 And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste
places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou
shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to
dwell in.
Acts 3:20-21 And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached
unto you: (21) Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution
of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets
since the world began.
Tuesday, August 19
3. CLEAN/UNCLEAN: NEITHER WAS TRULY GOOD
a. How did the Hebrews distinguish the types of flesh that were permitted
as food from those that were forbidden for being very unhealthy?
Leviticus 11:1-42 And the LORD spake unto Moses and to Aaron, saying unto
them, (2) Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, These are the beasts
which ye shall eat among all the beasts that are on the earth. (3) Whatsoever
parteth the hoof, and is clovenfooted, and cheweth the cud, among the
beasts, that shall ye eat. (4) Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of
them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the hoof: as the camel,
because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto
you. (5) And the coney, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the
hoof; he is unclean unto you. (6) And the hare, because he cheweth the
cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you. (7) And the swine,
though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the
cud; he is unclean to you. (8) Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their
carcase shall ye not touch; they are unclean to you. (9) These shall ye
eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in
the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat. (10) And
all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all
that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters,
they shall be an abomination unto you: (11) They shall be even an abomination
unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases
in abomination. (12) Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters,
that shall be an abomination unto you. (13) And these are they which ye
shall have in abomination among the fowls; they shall not be eaten, they
are an abomination: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray, (14)
And the vulture, and the kite after his kind; (15) Every raven after his
kind; (16) And the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckow, and the hawk
after his kind, (17) And the little owl, and the cormorant, and the great
owl, (18) And the swan, and the pelican, and the gier eagle, (19) And
the stork, the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat. (20)
All fowls that creep, going upon all four, shall be an abomination unto
you. (21) Yet these may ye eat of every flying creeping thing that goeth
upon all four, which have legs above their feet, to leap withal upon the
earth; (22) Even these of them ye may eat; the locust after his kind,
and the bald locust after his kind, and the beetle after his kind, and
the grasshopper after his kind. (23) But all other flying creeping things,
which have four feet, shall be an abomination unto you. (24) And for these
ye shall be unclean: whosoever toucheth the carcase of them shall be unclean
until the even. (25) And whosoever beareth ought of the carcase of them
shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even. (26) The carcases
of every beast which divideth the hoof, and is not clovenfooted, nor cheweth
the cud, are unclean unto you: every one that toucheth them shall be unclean.
(27) And whatsoever goeth upon his paws, among all manner of beasts that
go on all four, those are unclean unto you: whoso toucheth their carcase
shall be unclean until the even. (28) And he that beareth the carcase
of them shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even: they are
unclean unto you. (29) These also shall be unclean unto you among the
creeping things that creep upon the earth; the weasel, and the mouse,
and the tortoise after his kind, (30) And the ferret, and the chameleon,
and the lizard, and the snail, and the mole. (31) These are unclean to
you among all that creep: whosoever doth touch them, when they be dead,
shall be unclean until the even. (32) And upon whatsoever any of them,
when they are dead, doth fall, it shall be unclean; whether it be any
vessel of wood, or raiment, or skin, or sack, whatsoever vessel it be,
wherein any work is done, it must be put into water, and it shall be unclean
until the even; so it shall be cleansed. (33) And every earthen vessel,
whereinto any of them falleth, whatsoever is in it shall be unclean; and
ye shall break it. (34) Of all meat which may be eaten, that on which
such water cometh shall be unclean: and all drink that may be drunk in
every such vessel shall be unclean. (35) And every thing whereupon any
part of their carcase falleth shall be unclean; whether it be oven, or
ranges for pots, they shall be broken down: for they are unclean, and
shall be unclean unto you. (36) Nevertheless a fountain or pit, wherein
there is plenty of water, shall be clean: but that which toucheth their
carcase shall be unclean. (37) And if any part of their carcase fall upon
any sowing seed which is to be sown, it shall be clean. (38) But if any
water be put upon the seed, and any part of their carcase fall thereon,
it shall be unclean unto you. (39) And if any beast, of which ye may eat,
die; he that toucheth the carcase thereof shall be unclean until the even.
(40) And he that eateth of the carcase of it shall wash his clothes, and
be unclean until the even: he also that beareth the carcase of it shall
wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even. (41) And every creeping
thing that creepeth upon the earth shall be an abomination; it shall not
be eaten. (42) Whatsoever goeth upon the belly, and whatsoever goeth upon
all four, or whatsoever hath more feet among all creeping things that
creep upon the earth, them ye shall not eat; for they are an abomination.
Deuteronomy 14:3-21 Thou shalt not eat any abominable thing. (4) These
are the beasts which ye shall eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat, (5)
The hart, and the roebuck, and the fallow deer, and the wild goat, and
the pygarg, and the wild ox, and the chamois. (6) And every beast that
parteth the hoof, and cleaveth the cleft into two claws, and cheweth the
cud among the beasts, that ye shall eat. (7) Nevertheless these ye shall
not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the cloven hoof;
as the camel, and the hare, and the coney: for they chew the cud, but
divide not the hoof; therefore they are unclean unto you. (8) And the
swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean
unto you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcase.
(9) These ye shall eat of all that are in the waters: all that have fins
and scales shall ye eat: (10) And whatsoever hath not fins and scales
ye may not eat; it is unclean unto you. (11) Of all clean birds ye shall
eat. (12) But these are they of which ye shall not eat: the eagle, and
the ossifrage, and the ospray, (13) And the glede, and the kite, and the
vulture after his kind, (14) And every raven after his kind, (15) And
the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckow, and the hawk after his kind,
(16) The little owl, and the great owl, and the swan, (17) And the pelican,
and the gier eagle, and the cormorant, (18) And the stork, and the heron
after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat. (19) And every creeping
thing that flieth is unclean unto you: they shall not be eaten. (20) But
of all clean fowls ye may eat. (21) Ye shall not eat of any thing that
dieth of itself: thou shalt give it unto the stranger that is in thy gates,
that he may eat it; or thou mayest sell it unto an alien: for thou art
an holy people unto the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his
mother’s milk.
b. How do we know that the use of flesh-even of the clean meats-was
still displeasing to God and was never for the benefit of His chosen people-physically
or spiritually?
Deuteronomy 12:20 When the LORD thy God shall enlarge thy border, as he
hath promised thee, and thou shalt say, I will eat flesh, because thy
soul longeth to eat flesh; thou mayest eat flesh, whatsoever thy soul
lusteth after.
Psalms 106:15 And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their
soul.
c. What must be expected by those who defy God by eating very
unhealthy flesh?
Isaiah 66:15-17 For, behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with his
chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke
with flames of fire. (16) For by fire and by his sword will the LORD plead
with all flesh: and the slain of the LORD shall be many. (17) They that
sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree
in the midst, eating swine’s flesh, and the abomination, and the
mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the LORD.
2 Thessalonians 1:7-9 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the
Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, (8) In
flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey
not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: (9) Who shall be punished with
everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory
of his power;
Wednesday, August 20
4. TAKEN OUT OF THE ARK!
a. What did the Israelites continually do with God’s plan symbolized
by the pot of manna? Jeremiah 6:16 (last part); Ezekiel 20:23,
24.
Jeremiah 6:16 ...But they said, We will not walk therein.
Ezekiel 20:23-24 I lifted up mine hand unto them also in the wilderness,
that I would scatter them among the heathen, and disperse them through
the countries; (24) Because they had not executed my judgments, but had
despised my statutes, and had polluted my sabbaths, and their eyes were
after their fathers’ idols.
b. As a result of Israel’s continual rejection of God’s
plan, what item was the only one remaining in the ark of the covenant
when Solomon’s temple was dedicated?
1 Kings 8:9 There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone,
which Moses put there at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the
children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.
2 Chronicles 5:10 There was nothing in the ark save the two tables which
Moses put therein at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children
of Israel, when they came out of Egypt.
c. How are many modern Israelites repeating the mistake of ancient Israel?
1 Corinthians 10:6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we
should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
Thursday, August 21
5. THE ARK REMOVED FROM ISRAEL
a. Although God tried to work with Israel even after they had rejected
the pot of manna and kept only the tables of stone, how did they eventually
react to the Ten Commandments themselves?
Jeremiah 7:4-12 Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of the
LORD, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, are these. (5) For
if ye throughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye throughly execute
judgment between a man and his neighbour; (6) If ye oppress not the stranger,
the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place,
neither walk after other gods to your hurt: (7) Then will I cause you
to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever
and ever. (8) Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit. (9)
Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn
incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not; (10) And
come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and
say, We are delivered to do all these abominations? (11) Is this house,
which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold,
even I have seen it, saith the LORD. (12) But go ye now unto my place
which was in Shiloh, where I set my name at the first, and see what I
did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.
2 Chronicles 36:15-16 And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by
his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion
on his people, and on his dwelling place: (16) But they mocked the messengers
of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath
of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.
b. As a result of the rejection of the Ten Commandments from the
ark of the covenant, what did God finally do with the temple as well as
the ark itself?
Jeremiah 7:13-16 And now, because ye have done all these works, saith
the LORD, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard
not; and I called you, but ye answered not; (14) Therefore will I do unto
this house, which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the
place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh.
(15) And I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your
brethren, even the whole seed of Ephraim. (16) Therefore pray not thou
for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make
intercession to me: for I will not hear thee.
Jeremiah 25:7-11 Yet ye have not hearkened unto me, saith the LORD; that
ye might provoke me to anger with the works of your hands to your own
hurt. (8) Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Because ye have not
heard my words, (9) Behold, I will send and take all the families of the
north, saith the LORD, and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant,
and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof,
and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them,
and make them an astonishment, and an hissing, and perpetual desolations.
(10) Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth, and the voice
of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride,
the sound of the millstones, and the light of the candle. (11) And this
whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations
shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.
2 Chronicles 36:17-20 Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldees,
who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary,
and had no compassion upon young man or maiden, old man, or him that stooped
for age: he gave them all into his hand. (18) And all the vessels of the
house of God, great and small, and the treasures of the house of the LORD,
and the treasures of the king, and of his princes; all these he brought
to Babylon. (19) And they burnt the house of God, and brake down the wall
of Jerusalem, and burnt all the palaces thereof with fire, and destroyed
all the goodly vessels thereof. (20) And them that had escaped from the
sword carried he away to Babylon; where they were servants to him and
his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia:
c. What ray of hope was prophesied in that dark era? Malachi 4:5.
Explain the twofold fulfillment of this prophecy. Matthew 17:11-
13.
Malachi 4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming
of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:
Matthew 17:11-13 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall
first come, and restore all things. (12) But I say unto you, That Elias
is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever
they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them. (13) Then
the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.

Lesson 9 Sabbath, August 30, 2008
The Modern Pot of Manna
Sunday, August 24
1. BASIC PRINCIPLES OF CHRISTIANITY
a. What is one of the first points of truth to be accepted near the beginning
of one’s Christian experience?
3 John 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and
be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering,
gentleness, goodness, faith, (23) Meekness, temperance: against such there
is no law.
b. Why does health reform play such an active and important part in one’s
life as a believer?
1 Corinthians 3:16-17 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that
the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? (17) If any man defile the temple of
God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple
ye are.
Monday, August 25
2. THE ARK RESTORED TO GOD’S PEOPLE
a. What prophecy speaks about the ark of the covenant being restored once
again to the true people of God? Where is this ark at the present
time, and what is found inside it?
Revelation 11:18-19 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come,
and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest
give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them
that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which
destroy the earth. (19) And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and
there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were
lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great
hail.
Hebrews 9:3-4 And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called
the Holiest of all; (4) Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the
covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that
had manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;
Hebrews 9:23-24 It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things
in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things
themselves with better sacrifices than these. (24) For Christ is not entered
into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true;
but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:
b. Once God entrusts the ark to a people, are they guaranteed
to keep it forever no matter what they do?
Romans 11:17-24 And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being
a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest
of the root and fatness of the olive tree; (18) Boast not against the
branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.
(19) Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be
graffed in. (20) Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou
standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: (21) For if God spared
not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. (22)
Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell,
severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness:
otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. (23) And they also, if they abide
not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them
in again. (24) For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild
by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree:
how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into
their own olive tree?
c. What promise can give us a constant assurance that God will
always have a people to bear the ark?
Romans 9:27 Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of
the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:
Romans 11:1-5 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For
I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
(2) God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what
the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against
Israel, saying, (3) Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down
thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life. (4) But what
saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand
men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal. (5) Even so then
at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election
of grace.

3. DIET DURING THE DAY OF ATONEMENT
a. What day are we living in as we approach the close of time?
Isaiah 22:12, 20, 22; (12) And in that day did the Lord GOD of hosts call
to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth:
(20) And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will call my servant
Eliakim the son of Hilkiah: (22) And the key of the house of David will
I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he
shall shut, and none shall open.
Revelation 3:7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These
things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of
David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man
openeth;
b. What practice on that specific day provides insight on how
to observe the antitypical day of atonement?
Leviticus 23:28-29 And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is
a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your
God. (29) For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that
same day, he shall be cut off from among his people.
c. What will happen to those who, knowing the light, persist in
eating flesh in the antitypical day of atonement?
Isaiah 22:13-14 And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing
sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for to morrow
we shall die. (14) And it was revealed in mine ears by the LORD of hosts,
Surely this iniquity shall not be purged from you till ye die, saith the
Lord GOD of hosts.
Leviticus 23:27-30 Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall
be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye
shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the
LORD. (28) And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of
atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God. (29)
For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day,
he shall be cut off from among his people. (30) And whatsoever soul it
be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy
from among his people.
Psalms 106:14-15 But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted
God in the desert. (15) And he gave them their request; but sent leanness
into their soul.

4. REFORMATION IN THE MINISTRY
a. What kind of ministry do we need to prepare a people to face the final
crisis of this world’s history?
Ezekiel 44:23 And they shall teach my people the difference between the
holy and profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the
clean.
b. Is it possible to faithfully lead God’s people without
leading by example?
Leviticus 10:8-11 And the LORD spake unto Aaron, saying, (9) Do not drink
wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the
tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for
ever throughout your generations: (10) And that ye may put difference
between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean; (11) And that
ye may teach the children of Israel all the statutes which the LORD hath
spoken unto them by the hand of Moses.
1 Corinthians 11:1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.
Thursday, August 28
5. PREPARATION FOR THE SECOND COMING
a. What type of dietary practices are needed by the faithful as a whole
before the second coming of Jesus?
1 Corinthians 9:25-27 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate
in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an
incorruptible. (26) I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I,
not as one that beateth the air: (27) But I keep under my body, and bring
it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others,
I myself should be a castaway.
b. What type of character does this translation diet foster?
Ephesians 5:26-27 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing
of water by the word, (27) That he might present it to himself a glorious
church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should
be holy and without blemish.

What Is Health Reform?
Sunday, August 31
1. PRINCIPLES OF HEALTH REFORM
a. How far does our physical, mental, and spiritual well-being depend
on our obedience to the principles of health reform?
Deuteronomy 5:33 Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God
hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you,
and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.
Deuteronomy 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart,
and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
Deuteronomy 30:16 In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy
God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes
and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the LORD thy
God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.
Deuteronomy 30:19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you,
that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore
choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
b. What is often associated with the removal of something bad
(evil) in the system without proper replacement? How is it possible to
successfully separate from those things that are not good for us?
2 Peter 2:22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb,
The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed
to her wallowing in the mire.
Deuteronomy 11:22-28 For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments
which I command you, to do them, to love the LORD your God, to walk in
all his ways, and to cleave unto him; (23) Then will the LORD drive out
all these nations from before you, and ye shall possess greater nations
and mightier than yourselves. (24) Every place whereon the soles of your
feet shall tread shall be yours: from the wilderness and Lebanon, from
the river, the river Euphrates, even unto the uttermost sea shall your
coast be. (25) There shall no man be able to stand before you: for the
LORD your God shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you upon all
the land that ye shall tread upon, as he hath said unto you. (26) Behold,
I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; (27) A blessing, if
ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this
day: (28) And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD
your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day,
to go after other gods, which ye have not known.
Monday, September 1
2. NATURE’S ABUNDANT SUPPLY
a. Where was our first parents’ home?
Genesis 2:8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there
he put the man whom he had formed.
b. Why were Adam and Eve placed in such lovely, natural surroundings,
and what were they to realize about it? What change took place after the
Fall?
Genesis 2:9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree
that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also
in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Genesis 1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing
seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the
which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
Genesis 3:18-19 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee;
and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; (19) In the sweat of thy face
shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it
wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
Psalms 104:13-15 He watereth the hills from his chambers: the earth is
satisfied with the fruit of thy works. (14) He causeth the grass to grow
for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth
food out of the earth; (15) And wine that maketh glad the heart of man,
and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man’s
heart.
Tuesday, September 2
3. PITFALLS IN REFORMATION
a. As sinful creatures, against what tendency do we have to be continually
on guard? How is this same tendency seen in regard to principles of health
reform?
Deuteronomy 5:32 Ye shall observe to do therefore as the LORD your God
hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the
left.
Proverbs 4:27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot
from evil.
b. What problem do those who are living in the Laodicea period
face? What should we do about this?
Revelation 3:14-15 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans
write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the
beginning of the creation of God; (15) I know thy works, that thou art
neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
Wednesday, September 3
4. THE PROCESS OF REFORMATION
a. What basic principle of the Christian life applies also in regard to
changes in dietary habits?
Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate,
and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which
go in thereat: (14) Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way,
which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Luke 13:23-24 Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved?
And he said unto them, (24) Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for
many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not
as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your
own salvation with fear and trembling.
b. At times, what is necessary in this struggle to overcome the
appetite?
Matthew 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come
after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Matthew 17:21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
Thursday, September 4
5. WISDOM TO CHANGE
a. When we consider the pitfalls and perseverance required in reforming
our diet, how is it possible to achieve the right balance that leads to
eternal life?
Proverbs 2:6-7 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge
and understanding. (7) He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he
is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.
Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and
with all thy getting get understanding.
James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to
all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
b. What kind of commitment is needed to maintain health?
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth
me.
c. What must we consider when struggling with lifestyle changes?
Job 14:4 Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.
Romans 7:24-25 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the
body of this death? (25) I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So
then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the
law of sin.
1 Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory
through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Lesson 11 Sabbath, September 13, 2008
Identifying God’s People
Sunday, September 7
1. A PECULIAR PEOPLE
a. From all the world’s inhabitants, who are recognized as God’s
true people?
1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy
nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him
who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
Malachi 3:17-18 And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that
day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth
his own son that serveth him. (18) Then shall ye return, and discern between
the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that
serveth him not.
b. What makes God’s people peculiar, and how is this privilege
blessed? How do we know this distinction encompasses our dietary choices?
Exodus 19:5-6 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep
my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people:
for all the earth is mine: (6) And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests,
and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the
children of Israel.
Deuteronomy 14:2 For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and
the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above
all the nations that are upon the earth.
Deuteronomy 26:16-19 This day the LORD thy God hath commanded thee to
do these statutes and judgments: thou shalt therefore keep and do them
with all thine heart, and with all thy soul. (17) Thou hast avouched the
LORD this day to be thy God, and to walk in his ways, and to keep his
statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and to hearken unto
his voice: (18) And the LORD hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar
people, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his
commandments; (19) And to make thee high above all nations which he hath
made, in praise, and in name, and in honour; and that thou mayest be an
holy people unto the LORD thy God, as he hath spoken.
Exodus 15:26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of
the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt
give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none
of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians:
for I am the LORD that healeth thee.
Monday, September 8
2. LEADING UP THE NARROW PATH
a. What relationship should exist between the leaders and the flock entrusted
to their care?
1 Timothy 4:12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of
the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith,
in purity.
1 Peter 5:2-4 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight
thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of
a ready mind; (3) Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but
being ensamples to the flock. (4) And when the chief Shepherd shall appear,
ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
b. How does the knowledge of the truth, including health reform,
affect our salvation and that of those who are watching us?
1 Timothy 4:16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue
in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that
hear thee.
c. Where does obedience to God’s laws-including His natural
laws-lead?
Isaiah 1:19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the
land:
1 Peter 1:14-16 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according
to the former lusts in your ignorance: (15) But as he which hath called
you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; (16) Because
it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
d. How does God purify His people?
Isaiah 48:10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have
chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.
1 Peter 1:22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through
the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another
with a pure heart fervently:
John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide
you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever
he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
e. What calls did Joshua and Elijah make to ensure Israel’s
faithfulness? How is it possible to make the same type of call for a temperance
pledge?
Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you
this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served
that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites,
in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the
LORD.
1 Kings 18:21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long
halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal,
then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.
Tuesday, September 9
3. PURIFICATION AND FINAL SEPARATION
a. What will happen to all who persist in evil habits?
Hosea 4:17 Ephraim is joined to idols: let him alone.
b. What ultimately happens to the "candlestick" of a
church that continue in wrongdoing?
Revelation 2:5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent,
and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will
remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
Revelation 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor
hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
c. What kind of people will be ready to see Christ?
Ephesians 5:25-27 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved
the church, and gave himself for it; (26) That he might sanctify and cleanse
it with the washing of water by the word, (27) That he might present it
to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such
thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Wednesday, September 10
4. SERIOUS PREPARATION FOR ETERNITY
a. Of the many Bible promises, which ones have brought special hope and
courage during the difficult times of God’s church in all ages?
2 Peter 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises:
that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped
the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
2 Peter 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens
and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
b. What work is Jesus doing in the heavenly sanctuary in order
for His people to spend eternity with Him?
John 14:1-3 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe
also in me. (2) In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were
not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. (3) And
if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you
unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
Romans 8:34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather,
that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh
intercession for us.
Hebrews 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that
come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
c. What is included in our preparation to meet Christ?
1 John 3:3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself,
even as he is pure.
2 Corinthians 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let
us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting
holiness in the fear of God.
Thursday, September 11
5. LET US REDEEM THE TIME
a. Why has the return of Christ been delayed for so many years?
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men
count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any
should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
1 Timothy 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the
knowledge of the truth.

Advancing and Growing in the Present Truth
Sunday, September 14
1. CHILDREN OF ABRAHAM: SPIRITUAL ISRAEL
a. How are the Abrahamic promises to be understood by believers who seriously
seek to follow Christ and inherit the Promised Land?
Romans 4:9 Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or
upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abra |
