Baptism – Sister Raewyn Wales

On Sabbath afternoon, the 7th of October 2017, family, members and guests of the Queensland Conference gathered together by the shores of Phill Hill Conservation area in Paradise point, Gold Coast to witness the baptism of Sister Raewyn Wales. Sister Raewyn’s testimony was an inspiration to us all who attended the Sabbath fellowshipment. As Sister Raewyn, a New Zealander, was getting baptised in Australia, where we have “all sorts of strange and deadly creatures”, she was initially a bit concerned…

GoodTidings – Editorial (Jul-Aug, 2017)

It is impossible not to be moved with a sense of compassion for the thousands of lives affected by natural calamities. The relief efforts that flow in their wake, both financial and direct in the form of food, clothing and shelter, demonstrate our common empathy for our fellow humanity, regardless of race, religion or politics. When there is a need, for the most part, people help. Whether it is the hurricanes and floods in Central and North America, to earthquakes…

New Caledonia – Fly and Build

Winter in the South Pacific Region can be deceptive if you are not used to it. The days were warm for building work and the nights and early mornings were cool enough to sit by a wood fire outdoors. Enough cold chill to have to warm up. It was interesting to see peach trees in blossom where one never expected to see them. Tropical fruits were expected and yes, lychees and mangoes were in bloom too. Coconut palms held their…

AUC MediaCon 2017

Held during the school holidays from July 3-7 in Victoria and a first for an event of this type, youth and others interested in media attended AUC MediaCon to hone their skills in video production and graphic design. The venue was situated in the beautiful surrounds of Galwiji Homestead near Ballarat. The scenic homestead provided a perfect location for video production and team learning.  The weather was cold and mostly cloudy, but it was mostly perfect lighting for videography. There…

Declared Righteous & Made Holy – Part 1

How does the legal work of justification by faith relate to holiness of heart and life? Terms such as “forensic justification” and “legal justification” used to confuse me, because they explained the doctrine of justification by faith as purely a legal (objective) act of God on behalf of the sinner, and I could not reconcile this with the transformative work of God within my heart, which I knew happened when I was first converted. As I understand it now, the…

Victoria Snow Camp

Psalm 51:7 “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.” From the 18th to the 21st of August, a group of brothers and sisters from Melbourne participated in one of the most awaited camps of the year: the snow camp. We went to Bright Town and spent a nice time in nature. On Friday afternoon, everybody arrived and settled, and then had worship together to open the Sabbath. Sabbath morning…

On August Friday 11 – Sunday 13, 2017, the New South Wales Missionary Department held a Seminar at Schofields Church, with the theme “Identity Crisis”, designed to reach all ages, particularly young people both in and outside the church. Vincent Francisco Cimera – Eulogy

Dad was born on May 31, 1934 to Elisa Pesl de Cimera and Vicente Cimera (the first), emigrants who had come to Argentina, separately, from what is today the Czech Republic. Upon emigrating into Argentina, the family name was changed to Cimera so that it could be more easily pronounced. The original name was something like Zimmer. Dad was born in the little town of Hudson, a city in the south of Greater Buenos Aires, near the coast and on…

When Two Become One

I was privileged recently to perform the wedding of my eldest son. As I gathered my thoughts together in preparation, it served to remind me of the wonderful purpose God has for every marriage. As a divine institution given by God to the human race, its real purpose and blessing can only be realised through living out the Biblical principles attached to it. To understand more clearly God’s intention in this relationship, we need to go back to the record…

Building Repairs – Keilor Park Church

The members and friends of the Keilor Park Church need your help. Our church building is now over 45 years old. It was completed in 1972 with volunteer labour as a concrete block structure.  Later, some other additions were made to the back. Today we have a small kitchen, cramped dining area, ageing toilets and a makeshift second dining area in a shed which doubles as a Children’s Sabbath School room. There are some maintenance items that are due, such…

WA Youth Cook-off

On Saturday 3rd of June, the youth of Guildford Church gathered together for a “cook-off”. All who participated were divided into teams and given various vegan ingredients from which to come up with a dessert, main or entrée dish within one hour. There was intense action once the hour began, and the kitchen began to look like an overcrowded beehive of activity. The team work was excellent, however, and although many hands made a lot of mess, there was general…

Remembering our Dear Brother Emil Brus

Born on January 8, 1930 in Spanovica, a small town in central Croatia, Emil Brus would grow to display a fire for Christ that would rage throughout his life, igniting all who came in contact with him. However, the sparks for this fire were first lit in 1926, before Emil was even born. After World War I, Europe was ready for rebirth. Emil’s father and uncle, Jakob and Stanco, started a logging business that boomed in the postwar economy, eventually…

Question Field Youth Outing – May 7 2017

Most young Australians cannot escape the overwhelming nostalgia that hits them when entering Questacon, the National Science and Technology Centre. Instantly, memories of the many school science classes and excursions come flooding in. In our case, the youth from the NSW field were excited to spend the day exploring one of Australia’s biggest public science centres. The first step into the exhibition launches you into the void of space and cool dark blue lighting and soothing music. The blue allows…

Schofields Church Cooking Demonstration

May 15th, 22nd, 29th. Genesis 1:29 – And God said “Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat”. With a chilly winter just around the corner, the Schofields Church held another fruitful series of cooking classes during the month of May 2017. This event involved careful planning, lots of…

QLD – Opal Burpengary Gardens Visit

On Sabbath afternoon of 27 May, 2017 Opal Burpengary Gardens Nursing Home received its first visit from the members and youth of Pimpama and Clayfield churches. The Pimpama church made the trip up from the Gold Coast and, joined by members and youth from Clayfield, shared an afternoon of Christian praise in song and music for…

NSW Camp 2017

The New South Wales Camp 2017 was held at Elim Heights on the Queen’s Birthday weekend in June. The theme “Changed Into His Image” focused on the wonderful work of grace in changing the hearts of all who will submit to Jesus’ work within. A variety of presentations explored different aspects of this precious truth. Children and youth enjoyed programs tailored to their needs as well. One particular highlight was a project to raise money for the NSW Youth, where…

Congratulations to the Polistina Family! How wonderful it was to hear the announcement that another beautiful boy was born: the second son to Domenic and Nadine Polistina and a little brother to Immanuel. Our congratulations extend to Nadine, Domenic and their family as they welcomed their new baby “Eleazar” (El-e-a-zar) into this world, on Sabbath morning, the 17th of June.
