AUC MediaCon 2017

AUC MediaCon 2017

Held during the school holidays from July 3-7 in Victoria and a first for an event of this type, youth and others interested in media attended AUC MediaCon to hone their skills in video production and graphic design.

The venue was situated in the beautiful surrounds of Galwiji Homestead near Ballarat. The scenic homestead provided a perfect location for video production and team learning.  The weather was cold and mostly cloudy, but it was mostly perfect lighting for videography. There was a lovely fireplace inside the house which kept everyone warm and some game activities providing a refreshing time-out from the busy program.

The program consisted of two main streams: video production & graphic design. Attendees learned and practiced the basics of video production from developing a story and pre-production to filming and audio capture to post-production and video editing.  The graphic design session consisted of learning basic elements such as lines, balance, scale, colour, negative space, symmetry and repetition seen in design. Knowing how to use these elements in design pays off if you ever need to be creative!

Various attendees took turns leading out in worship and the subjects shared were relevant and challenging to all of us. The food was delicious thanks to Brigita Szabo and others who helped. The atmosphere felt warm and relaxed, like a home away from home.

In total, 19 people attended from 3 states. It was a wonderful group to live with for 1 week and lots of quality time was spent together and great memories were made. At the end of the week’s stay, we all gathered next to the fire place and watched everyone’s videos. I was amazed and pleased at how creative all the teams were! All the videos were amazing and everybody did a wonderful job. You can watch some of the videos on GoodTidings YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/goodtidings

There are lots of creative youth in our church with lots of skills and ideas whom the Lord can use in His service. One of the things we learned was that all ability, skill or inspiration comes from the Holy Spirit. It is a wonderful experience when you can spend time producing something creative knowing that the Holy Spirit is working in your heart and you are being inspired and used by Him to serve God in media.

“See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and all craftsmanship, to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze, in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, to work in every craft.” Exodus 31:2-5

We look forward to MediaCon 2018 where we’ll use the great feedback we received by those who came this year. We plan on holding our next MediaCon in sunny Queensland! Further details will be published shortly.
