CONDOLENCES – Bernie Guthrie

CONDOLENCES – Bernie Guthrie

It is with sadness that I report the death of Bernie Guthrie.

Bernard Edward Guthrie died peacefully at his home on Thursday, 8 June, 2017, aged 85 years.  A graveside committal was held on Friday, 16 June at the Wagga Wagga Lawn Cemetery, Lake Albert, followed by a Memorial Service in John Bance & Son funeral home, Ashmont, Wagga Wagga.   Bernie is survived by his wife, Betty, their six children and families.  He was a much-loved grandfather and great-grandfather.

Bernie suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease the last few years of his life whilst his wife, Betty, faithfully took care of him.

I first met Bernie in the early 1990’s when he came and later joined our church in Uranquinty.

He often talked of his early life as a shearer.  When I met him, he was employed

as a school janitor.  We really enjoyed Bernie’s company at church.

I remember Bernie’s earnest and sincere prayers.  He loved the truth.  He was a good student of Waggoner and Jones.  Bernie impressed on us “the faith of Jesus” and what it really is.

Bernie will be sadly missed by all who knew him and we look forward to the resurrection of God’s faithful.
