It was the planned combined churches day for Queensland Conference, which was held at the Woombye Church on 21 May 2016.  The Sabbath School was taken by the Conference Sabbath School Leader, Br Fredy Reyes and divided into three groups to study the lesson. Br Paul Chapman took the Divine Service and brought out that our young people are not to look in the world to find their partner.  God has instructed those who follow Him to only form relationships with those who believe the same and are members of our church.  We were taken back through the history of the Bible where the curse of evil flourished when the sons of God looked for wives from the daughters of men.  We all then enjoyed a combined lunch and a little time to chat with each other.

This was followed by a Gospel Concert at 3.30pm organised by Sr Sandra Barnett.  “Burdens are lifted at Calvary” was sung by all the children, followed by a youth singing group, instrumental items, beautifully sung group items from the Pimpama Group, Clayfield Church, Woombye Group and Wide Bay Group.  The church was filled with the beautiful hymn “Sing the Wondrous Love of Jesus” when as many as possible sang in the combined choir.  We were also privileged to have our young brother from Korea praise God with a solo on his violin. Then it was time to be favoured with a selection of hymns from our guest soloist, Br Samuel Wiseman, accompanied by the piano and the guitar.  This part of the concert began with Sam’s own favourite, “Sweet Hour of Prayer” and other well-known hymns, “Then Jesus Came”, “All That Thrills My Soul”, “I’ll tell the World that I’m a Christian”, and everyone loved “My Forever Friend”.  Sr Joanne Blucher praised God with a vocal solo “Why Should I Feel Discouraged” and lifted our thoughts heavenward when she sang the words “His eye is on the sparrow, And I know He watches me.”  The piano accordion band consisted of five accordions played by Br Calvin Barnett, his three sisters, Sandra, Mary and Jeanette and nephew, Sam playing the hymn, “We’re Bound for the Land”.   The concert concluded with the close of Sabbath and a delicious evening meal of fruit and sweets.

The day was attended by approximately 90 people, and it was wonderful to have so many brothers, sisters, youth and children to be together to worship.   I praise God that we are able to have a little heaven on earth.
